Virginia Tech's Department of Forest Resources & Environmental Conservation offers M.S., PhD, and M.F. (Master's of Forestry) degrees. We are always interested in applications from highly qualified students. Urban Forestry is a multi-disciplinary field, and we enjoy working with qualified students from diverse backgrounds. Graduate funding, in the form of research or teaching assistantships, is available depending on current project funds. Current research focus areas include stormwater abatement, urban rhizosphere ecology, landscape tree establishment, pruning for storm damage mitigation, modelling tree growth in ultra-urban areas, urban forest inventory, analysis, and benefits modeling.
